Frequent Ask Questions
Do Acupuncture needles hurt?
Acupuncture usually does not hurt. No pain, though this does not mean there is no sensation. You may feel a slight sting, pinch, or ache as the acupuncture needle is being inserted.
Anything I should pay attention to after treatment?
To consolidate the result of the treatment, you should avoid having cold food, keep warm and get more rest for at least 12 hours after each treatment. The results can last hours or days or even until the next visit depending on the type of disorder and the length and severity of the symptoms. As treatment progresses, you will see more and more improvement.
Is there any side effect to acupuncture treatment?
Side effects are very rare but can include light-headedness, dizziness, nausea, slight bruising, or residual muscle aching. Any of these should last only a short period of time.
Do I need to follow up treatment?
Follow-up treatment is also a part of your healing process. Although the relief is often felt at the first visit, follow-up appointments are necessary to ensure the root problem is being fully addressed. If it takes a long time to develop, it will take a while to recover completely. Our goal is to further strengthen your body to prevent the recurrence of the ailment or the development of a new ailment.
When would I need herbal medicine?
If our practitioner thinks the herbs will help speed up your healing for your type of disorder, it will be suggested that you take the Chinese medicinal herbs.
Where do you get your Chinese herbs?
Our clinic imports the best quality Medicinal Herbs from the top herbal pharmaceutical companies in Taiwan and China. We have a complete collection of herbal medicines in our clinic. Our suppliers are renown for the purity, consistency and cleanliness of their products, in addition to their recognized testing and research programs.
Can I still see my medical doctors? Can I still take the medicine they prescribe?
Yes, you can. It is only a benefit to you when you see your medical doctors while receiving Chinese medicine’s treatment. Their diagnostic tools are helpful in combination with my treatments. Our treatments focus on a more natural, non-toxic approach to healing to treat the root of the problems and not masking symptoms only. Once you have fewer symptoms, you could discuss the possibilities of decreasing or eliminating your medicine with your medical doctors.
What do I prepare for my acupuncture treatment?
- Light meal
- Wear loose clothing so you could roll up your sleeves to your elbows and pants to your knees.
- Do not brush your tongue before you come. (But please brush your teeth!)
- No alcohol.
- No perfume or cologne because some of our patients have allergies and strong smells may trigger their allergies or impede their treatment.
What do I expect from my acupuncture treatment?
Initial consultation plus treatment will take about 20 – 40 minutes. Follow-up treatment will take about 30 – 60 minutes. You will be asked some questions you may not consider relevant to your chief complaint, for example, your sleep pattern, energy level, diet, emotions, etc. However, because Chinese medicine takes the whole body into consideration rather than one local symptom, this information is important for a practitioner to make the best possible decision to guide their treatments.
As a part of your treatment experience, your tongue will be examined, and your pulse will be felt. The tongue and pulse tell a lot about your body constitution.
